He was played by Robert Guillaume from November 9, 1991, to April 13, 2008. Background Hoss Cartwright was born in Pine Valley in 1927, the son of Glynis, and maternal nephew of Addie Snyder. He was the second husband of Mary Alice Cartwright, and father to Peter Cartwright and Timothy Cartwright. Hoss had a stepson named David, who had been adopted by Mike and Mary Christine Reynolds when the Cartwrights adopted David's half-brother Adam after Adam's parents, Adam and Elizabeth, were killed by a bus. The Cartwrights adopted Adam because they felt that Elizabeth should not be burdened with raising her own son, but instead raise him in the arms of love. After Elizabeth and Adam were killed in a bus accident, Mary Christine raised Adam and she became pregnant with his child. When Elizabeth was found alive by Justin and Alexis earlier that year, she had wanted to see her first grandson and her son Adam left for Colorado with his adoptive mother Mary Christine Reynolds. Hoss Cartwright raised Adam as his own after Mary Christine and her family emigrated to California and was in their custody at the time of Elizabeth's kidnapping. Hoss had been very bitter about Mary Christine's decision to raise her son with his ex-wife Gwen and her family because she felt that Mary Christine was taking advantage of his sister-in-law Gwen. Later on, after Mary Christine and Hoss were married, Hoss eventually learned of the fact that Gwen had died because Hoss, who was the first to suspect that Gwen was not really dead, went to the pier to see Gwen, thinking that she was fishing. Gwen was actually having an affair with her boss and he had hidden her under the pier where Hoss found her. Hoss was very angry when he learned of Gwen's affair and she was pregnant with her lover's baby. He and Mary Alice were friends and co-workers before they married. Marrying Mary Alice was a good choice for Hoss. He was a widower who needed a home for his children. He and Mary Alice quickly became a couple. Hoss helped Mary Alice to raise her children and at the same time took care of Peter and Timothy as well. The Cartwrights be359ba680
